Islington’s rising basketball stars couldn’t have done any better last weekend as both Activities4U U12 and Access2Sports U16 teams did very well to win their games at none other than the Copper Box Arena in The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Sunday 8th November marked the return of the Community Basketball League (CBL) for its 2015-16 Season, and up first were A4U’s U12 team who went head to head against Kennington Generals. MVP of the game was awarded to A4U’s talented player and lead scorer, Miles Sewell, who finished with a total of 11 points to ensure his team won 16-5.

Following on from their success was Islington’s Access 2 Sports (A2S) U16 team who took on Dagenham Dragons. Displaying great athleticism and leadership throughout, A2S players Arbour Zeneli and Amir Ibrahim did well to start the game with a combined total of 15 points to ensure their team led 16-4 by the end of the first quarter. Team mate R.Singh maintained the momentum to help the team stay ahead by double going into the half (24-12).

Despite a brilliant performance from Dragons’ E. Curne who had 8 points and Shaydon Cornwall with 10 points in the third, it wasn’t enough to fight back against A2S who ran away with the win 45-22.

Islington’s MVP, Zeneli, said, “Dragons was good competition for us and so I’m glad we came away with the win. Today’s victory is a good confidence boost for me and my team going into the rest of the season.”

Both teams play in the CBL run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach. For more information, please contact lwilliams@reachandteach.co.uk
