In one of the best U16 games of the season so far, the Hackney Kings pushed through THREE over-time periods to finally put the the Bromley Pythons to bed in a 40-30 CBL thriller.

The game was close throughout with both teams giving as good as they got with Bromley’s Dan Davis leading the way for the South Londoner’s with 10 points personal, matched by the Kings Filip Szwed with 9 points of his own for the Kings.  However it was the irrepressible play of Maliq Oke which proved to be the difference in this tightly contested affair, with his piercing drives to the basket and athletic full-court attack, en-route to a game-high 22 point personal haul.

With the teams unable to be separated after 2 over-time periods, it was Oke who finally outlasted all competition with 8 of his points coming in the final period, leading the East Londoner’s to a hard-earned win.

“We just try to play as hard as we can everytime we step on the court.  It’s the Hackney way.  We work hard in practise and listen to our coach and then come together to execute when the games come around.  This was a good win and Bromley really came to play today, but it was a good test for us and I’m glad we were able to come through it” Oke said, after picking up game MVP honours.

Hackney are fighting for a first-place finish in the CBL Eastern Conference, where it looks to be a 3-team race between the Kings, MTS and Southwark Legends.
