The Community of London Academy (COLA) had a triumphant victory over Wandsworth Wolves winning 43-33 at London’s Copper Box Arena in The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Sunday 8th November marked the return of the Community Basketball League (CBL) for its 2015-16 Season, and so COLA’s U16 team got off to a good start winning by a 10 point lead.

However, this win was hard to come by as Wolves’ played fantastic team basketball throughout to maintain an early lead and finish 6-14 going into the half.

However, this didn’t seem to affect COLA’s confidence as the team continued to play with heart and determination. Peckham’s MVP Kavell Hawes lead his team well to help shrink Wandsworth’s lead to 6 points in order to end the third quarter 26-20.

It seemed as though the Wolves weren’t ready for COLA who came biting back in the final quarter, displaying incredible team defence to lock their opponents down. With the win in sight, Hawes showed out with an impressive 8 points to help his team secure their first victory of the new season.

Peckham’s MVP, Hawes, said, “I’m really happy that we managed to pull that game back. I believe working hard on our defence during our practice sessions really paid off today.”

Both teams play in the CBL run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach. For more information, please contact lwilliams@reachandteach.co.uk
