In line with the Basketball England latest guidelines around returning to play organised basketball, post-lockdown, the CBL are targeting a return to competitions for Sunday 16th May, in line with the league’s ‘3 Point Play‘ announcement earlier this year.

League Co-Commissioner, Steve Whyte:

“We are all eager to get back on court and back to doing what we all love – and that is to play! It’s been a challenging year for everyone, both on and off the court, but the league is looking forward to being able to play our part in helping players, coaches and clubs all across our community, bounce back and get back into competitions again.”

Though the governing body have given tentative clearance for organised play to resume from April 12th, the league recognises the need for teams to get back into organised training sessions and structure prior to being ready for actual competitions. Therefore, a 4 week window of ‘pre-season’ preparation has been put in place for all teams so they can get ready for organised competitions in a safe and stress-free manner.

The CBL ‘regular season, for 2020/21 will, understandably see some changes implemented to accommodate a shortened competitions window, however the league will still deliver a minimum of 8-12 games for all participating teams. Plans are well-underway for a revised schedule that will accommodate a new ‘tournament-styled’ schedule that will enable teams to play 2 games per day over the course of the 3-month schedule.

Some teams are also being scheduled for Saturday games, as there will be no clashes with other competitions during the condensed season. The newly formatted schedule is tentatively being released after Easter (12th April) via the website.

For players and teams interested in getting back on court and playing this season, the CBL is now accepting new applications, while spaces remain available.
