CBL PLAYOFF FEMALE FEATURE GAME SEES KENNINGTON & COLA CROWNED CHAMPIONS

The CBL have enjoyed following the female talent in the league and so were proud to celebrate women’s basketball on Sunday 26th June as the Kennington Generals took on COLA in the female feature game of the day.

With the crowd in full support of the women on court, the female game of the afternoon proved to be a tightly contested affair with the Kennington Generals edging out COLA by one point to win 9-8 and finish as this year’s CBL U25 Female Champions,

 

whilst COLA came away winning the CBL U18 Female Championship. 

The first half saw Kennington’s MVP, Natalie Paredes, net the first basket, but COLA hit back immediately to even out the score before tying the game 4-4 going into the third period.

Natalie Paredes continued to pull off a strong performance in the second half, attacking the basket whilst dominating in the paint to refuse COLA access to score inside.

However, South London’s double trouble, Adaobi Nebuwa and Chelsea Moukam, teamed up and played well displaying fluid passing and movement on the ball, proving their need to do more for their side to take ownership of the game.

With the game constantly close throughout, the deadlock was eventually broken and the baskets began to flow after Kennington’s Ademola Ogunnowo finished her lay-up with only minutes left in the game.

As the clock counted down, both teams traded baskets, but it was Kennington who soon slipped away with the win to finish victorious.

Game MVP, Natalie, said, “That game was a lot of fun and we played really right until the end. COLA are tough competition, but I’m glad we didn’t give up and fought hard to get the win.”

Team mate, Marta Mateus, said, “It feels great to be a girl playing basketball in the CBL as this is the best league that allows anyone to join and improve as a player. We’ve had s0 much fun this season and we’re looking forward to doing it all again next year. Watch this space!”
