Barnet has serious basketball talent as both Barnet East Giants and Barnet Bulldogs did well to win their games last Sunday in the Community Basketball League (CBL).

First to impress were Barnet East Giants’ Under 12 team who went head to head against Islington’s Access2Sports. It was a tight game throughout, but both Barnet’s Asaru Williams-Henry and Jay Das Nerves attacked the basket well to finish as joint lead scorers with 7 points each overall. In addition to Williams-Henry and Das Nerves, a great team effort from everyone meant that Giants were able to close out the game with a three point lead to end 24-21.

Following on from Giants’ success, Barnet Bulldogs U14 team took on Hackney Jedis in what also proved to be a very close game. However, Bulldogs’ Tyrese Ferguson didn’t waste any time getting to the basket to secure 4 points before sinking a three-point-shot at the end of the first half to keep Bulldogs just behind their opponents by 2 points (11-9). Barnet’s Iyan Histov maintained the momentum of the game by knocking down another three as well as scoring two more baskets to finish with 5 points in the final quarter which helped Bulldogs overtake the game and steer home the win of 33-23.

Game MVP, Ferguson, said, ‘To be down at the half and bring ourselves back up is a great achievement for us as it shows we play to the end and make the most of every opportunity. We will continue to work hard and get better for the next time we play.’

Both teams play in the Community Basketball League (CBL) run by the London School of Basketball (LSB) in partnership with Reach and Teach. For more information, please contact lwilliams@reachandteach.co.uk
